The spirit of paulinecards.com finds its beginnings in a vision. In July 1923, a young priest James Alberione, became seriously ill, and the medical diagnosis did not offer much hope. Eight years previous, he had founded in Alba, Italy, the Daughters of St. Paul, a community of women religious who were to use the media to communicate the Gospel. During the uncertain days that followed, he took his doctor's advice; he left the fledgling communities and retired to the countryside of Benevento to rest and regain his health. While Alberione was convalescing, Jesus appeared to him in a dream or vision and encouraged him with these words, "Do not be afraid. I am with you. From here (the Tabernacle) I wish to enlighten. Live in continual conversion." James Alberione returned to Alba miraculously cured. The words of Jesus became a program of life for him and for all his followers, and they form the spirit of www.paulinecards.com created by the Daughters of St. Paul as a joint e-card site between the United States, Canada, England, Central and Latin America.
For over 80 years, the sisters have shared this message with millions of people across the globe, beginning with Italy where their first communities began and eventually spreading out to over 50 nations. They knew that Jesus wanted to be with these people through them. The sisters felt themselves to be the "sacraments" of Jesus' presence as they walked through the city streets and offices, offering the Word of Life "clothed in paper and ink." Their Pauline Books & Media Centers were like churches, where Jesus as Teacher continued to teach as he did on the mountains and in the plains of Galilee.
Today Pauline publishing houses, radio and television studios, music labels and recording studios, periodicals and mini-media production can be found in the United States , England , São Paolo , Mexico City , Bogota , Bolivia , Buenos Aires, and other Latin American countries. Over 100 Pauline Books & Media Centers throughout the American continents serve as centers of light in major cities. And the holiness of James Alberione, the priest who founded the Daughters of St. Paul, has been acknowledged by the Church when he was declared Blessed James Alberione by John Paul II on April 22, 2003. His official miracle was the instantaneous cure of Maria Librada Gonzalez Rodriguez of Guadalajara. Paulinecards.com stands in this same line of ministry.Blessed James Alberione said, "If people don't go to church, we must transform the places where they go into churches." Wherever people are in their life; whatever they are suffering or rejoicing over; however the experiences of life have found them-they need the touch of God through his Word. They need wherever they are to become a church, a place of ministry. A card, sent with the promise of prayer, becomes a way to extend the Lord's reach.
